Schimel, 53, served eight years as North Hempstead town clerk before winning her Assembly seat in a 2007 special election. She is running for her second full term. The Assembly passed her microstamping bill, which would help investigators trace firearms at crime scenes, but the bill stalled in the Senate. She sits on the environmental, energy, transportation, veterans and local governments committees.
