A recent Duke University graduate is discovering just how bad the repercussions of kissing and telling can be—especially when it goes viral on the Web.
Karen Owen is the woman behind the aptly-titled “F**k list,” an impressively detailed, 42-page PowerPoint presentation documenting her sexual conquests, most of them members of the Duke Lacrosse team (Yes, that lacrosse team.) She composed the list as a joke and sent it to three friends and…they sent it to everyone else. Soon, all the students of Duke had a copy. The rest of the world shortly followed.

While the list and its contents are salacious by nature, they are hardly shocking, or alarming. It’s college. Boys and girls have sex. Sometimes it’s drunken sex, sometimes it’s sober, sometimes it’s calculated, sometimes it’s spontaneous. The most shocking thing about the list is just how much time and effort Owen put into making it.
In addition to being 42 slides long, the formal title is “An education beyond the classroom: excelling in the realm of horizontal academics” and contains a thorough, organized rating system for each person the author slept with. It also includes transcripts of dirty talk and sexting sessions. Oh, and a bar graph quantifying their sexual prowess (or, in some cases, lack thereof.)
Let’s just hope Owen invested as much effort in her studies at Duke as she did in this list.
Some of Owen’s “subjects,” who were all identified by name and in photos, are now calling what she did sexual harassment. While Owen was initially playful about the list, saying she’s “got some fantastic stories for the grandkids,” she recently told Jezebel.com “I regret it with all my heart. I would never intentionally hurt the people that are mentioned on that.”
Naturally, Owen is now receiving a whirlwind of attention, and the offers are pouring in. Owen’s list was featured on the Today Show Thursday (Co-host Meredith Viera referred to it as “graphic.”) One eager HarperCollins editor dubbed her the “female equivalent of Tucker Max.”
