
The National Weather Service is investigating whether a tornado touched down in Queens on Thursday evening during a powerful storm.

The quick-moving storm moved through New York City and Long Island Thursday evening, killing one person and tearing up trees and roofs from homes.
Midmorning Friday around more than 3,000 Long Island Power Authority customers and 29,000 ConEdison customers, mostly in Queens, were still without power. Overall 37,000 customers lost power due to the storm, ConEd said. More than 13,000 LIPA customers had lost power after the storm as well.

Iline Levakis, 30, of Mechanicburg, Pa., was killed after a tree fell on her car in Queens. Numerous other injuries were also reported in the area.
Meteorologists will be looking over the area to determine the width and intensity of the storm and whether or not a tornado did touch down. Fire officials are inspecting 10 buildings in Brooklyn whose roofs were peeled off or damaged from trees and wind.
