Medieval Festival at Sands Point

by Kaitlyn Piccoli on September 16, 2010

The scene at the Sands Point Medieval Festival

For a medieval journey alongside a real-life castle overlooking the Long Island Sound, visit the annual Sands Point Medieval Festival, where you’re bound to be called “M’lady” or “Good sir” more times than you’ve ever thought possible.

Each year, the preserve grounds are transformed into a tented medieval village, and modern folk take on the personae and dress of wenches and knights from the Middle Ages.

Steeped in tradition, the festival includes a live jousting tournament, archery demonstrations, and a castle siege enacted in the shadow of the preserve’s majestic Castlegould. Kids will tire themselves out as they try on authentic armor, compete in the “fight a knight” competition and kid-friendly jousts, or attempt to slay a dragon. Other activities include a life-size maypole and medieval puppet and fashion shows.

Wedding & Event FAQ
Q- Does the flower girl have to wear white or ivory to match the bride?

A-Your flower girl can wear any colored dress, which of course coordinates with the rest of your wedding party. If you choose for her to wear white or ivory, you can accent the dress with the bridal party color sash or appliqué. She can also wear the color of the bridal party and to differentiate her, you can add a white or ivory sash. Choose something that you feel will coordinate best with the rest of your bridal party.
