If you have never seen The Sound of Music, you may not know who the Von Trapp family is.
The Sound of Music tells the story of the Von Trapp family in Salzburg, Austria and stars Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer who play the roles of Maria and Captain Von Trapp.
The Von Trapps later left Austria and headed to Switzerland in the movie, but in real life they left for Italy, intending to make their way over to the United States to sing. And unlike the seven children in the movie, the Von Trapps actually had 10 children with different names. The names were changed for the movie.
When the Von Trapps arrived in America they launched a six-month singing tour and later moved to the U.S. permanently and settled on a farm in Vermont. They ran a musical camp on the property.
The Von Trapps opened The Trapp Family Lodge in 1950, and it is still in operation today and is still run by the Von Trapps.
