Cops: Smithtown Hookah Bar Let Minors Drink, Smoke

by Long Island Press on May 22, 2010

Suffolk County Police arrested two employees of a Smithtown lounge for allowing underage individuals to drink alcohol and smoke tobacco on the premises.

Two employees of the Fire and Ice Hookah Lounge in Smithtown were arrested for allowing underage kids to drink alcohol and smoke tobacco at the establishment, Suffolk Police said.

The fourth precinct had received several complaints from residents that the staff was allowing underage drinking and smoking. Upon inspection, police discovered minors brining beer into the lounge, which is located at 413 West Main St., and openly consuming it.

Amar Patel, 26, of Lake Grove was arrested along with Aaron Akaberi, 24, of South Setuaket for allowing drinking without a proper liquor license. Both are employees of the Fire and Ice Lounge.

Three patrons—Anthony Dellysse, 19, Steven Arvelo, 17, and Mauricio Acosta, 17—were arrested outside of the club for possessing marijuana.

All five suspects will be arraigned at First District Court in central Islip at a later date .

The Fire and Ice Lounge was also cited by the Smithtown Fire Marshal and the Suffolk County Department of Health for various code violations.
