Phillie Fan Tasered Video: Police Taser Teen Running on Field

by Long Island Press on May 4, 2010

A 17-year-old was tasered by police last night at a Philadelphia Phillies home game, after he hopped on to the field during play. Police brass are defending the actions of the officers in an episode that has sparked scrutiny and debate throughout the internet.

The teenager, wearing a Phillies T-Shirt, ran onto the field, waving a white towel around and darting away from security before the Philadelphia police officer let loose the electronic weapon. The weapon struck the teen, and dropped him, face first, into the ground.

According to a Phillies spokesperson, it was the first time a taser was used to subdue a “field jumper”. Thanks to the viral video, would-be runners will certainly be thinking twice before attempting such a  stunt.

What do you think? Was the action of the Philadelphia Police Department too severe? Or was it understandable under the circumstances? Let us know in the comments below.
