A 31-year-old Valley Stream man was arrested Friday for falsely reporting a car jacking because he could no longer afford to make payments to keep the car, Nassau County police said.
Lance Palma told police on Thursday that he went to the Val Brook Diner on East Merrick Road in Valley Stream when he was car jacked of his 2009 Dodge Charger at midnight, police said.
He said that as he opened the car door, a black man holding a knife approached him and said “get out of the car, if you don’t get out I will stab you,” according to Fifth Squad detectives.
Palma then told police that the man grabbed him by the shirt, pulled him out of the car, took the keys and drove away eastbound on Merrick Road, police said. He added that he walked home and didn’t call police right away.
When detectives followed up with Palma on Friday, Palma admitted that he had lied because he recently was fired from his job and could no longer afford to make the payments. He was charged with falsely reporting an incident.
