Letters to the Press: For the Week of Feb. 18 – Feb. 24

Crying Over Spilled Ink

Dear Jerry Della Femina:

You are Lonesome Rhodes. You are not fair-minded and not in the middle. Pres. Obama has had to fight against those who oppose changes that benefit the many: the Jim Crows of the 21st Century. It’s not, No We Can’t. It’s, No We Didn’t. Look in the mirror!

Dear Editor:

My compliments to Jerry Della Femina on his insightful column [“A Face in the Crowd,” Feb. 3]. However, I’m not as optimistic or hopeful as Della Femina about Barack Obama’s ability to move toward the center and become a good president.

Yes, while campaigning, Barack Obama sure looked and sounded extraordinary reading to us off the teleprompter. But this president is very clearly a deceiver of the masses, having made many promises that he wouldn’t or couldn’t possibly keep. That cunning scheme won him the election.

An authentic “wolf in sheep’s clothing,” now he and his party are weakening the U.S. economically and strategically by unrestrained spending and a half-hearted posture on the terror trials.

If Obama doesn’t hate and despise his own country, then he is certainly giving us a very good impersonation of someone who does.

Mike Marsala, Hauppauge

Never Forget

Dear Editor:

The Holocaust Memorial is a monument to the survivors and a window to the past [“It Didn’t Start With the Killing,” Feb. 10]. The Long Island Press did a service by inviting readers for a heartrending visit.

As the article relates, discovered in such a museum is a reminder of the horrors of war and the injustice of the Holocaust. The LI Press has given a voice to the collage of stories collected from Holocaust survivors to still be heard today.

[On these pages] is found a moving commentary on the captives’ courage and a testament to the human spirit to survive. And for this reason we are reminded of how very much the stories of Holocaust survivors still need to be told.

We are all in this world together and when one suffers we all do. Thanks to the Long Island Press article the Holocaust stories live on.

We shall never forget.

Sincerely,

Susan Marie Davniero, Lindenhurst

Interview: Yael Hersonski

Documentaries about the past pose a real dilemma. Can we ever really know, let alone understand through film, what we never experienced? And are images more reliable evidence, or potentially just as deceptive as the written word? These are ideas I [...]

Movie Review: A Film Unfinished

There are times when one of the greatest challenges of reviewing a movie is to distinguish between the extraordinary value of the material at hand and the manner in which it’s conveyed. At the risk of confusing the message with the messenger, let’s just [...]

Wedding & Event FAQ
Q- Does the flower girl have to wear white or ivory to match the bride?

A-Your flower girl can wear any colored dress, which of course coordinates with the rest of your wedding party. If you choose for her to wear white or ivory, you can accent the dress with the bridal party color sash or appliqué. She can also wear the color of the bridal party and to differentiate her, you can add a white or ivory sash. Choose something that you feel will coordinate best with the rest of your bridal party.
