A man and a mother with her son were arrested following a drug deal in Baldwin on Friday night, Nassau police said.
Narocits Squad detectives witnessed 27-year-old Deniece Yaw of Jamaica and 53-year-old Donald Cooper of Plainview exchange cash and drugs at 11:10 p.m., police said.
Detectives first arrested Yaw. When they searched her vehicle, they found five bags of crack cocaine, two bags of cocaine and a loaded handgun, as well as her 6-year-old son in the back seat, police said.
Cooper fled the scene, throwing small objects out of the window of his vehicle as he sped away. He was apprehended on Long Beach Road in Hempstead.
Yaw was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal sale of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child. She works for We Transport as a bus driver. Her son was released to the boy’s father.
Cooper was charged with tampering with physical evidence. Both Yaw and Cooper will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday.
