Four Injured In Massapequa Police Car Crash

by Long Island Press on January 24, 2010

Four people, including two Nassau County police officers, were injured Saturday night when a police car and another vehicle collided in Massapequa, Nassau police said.

According to Nassau Homicide Squad detectives, two Seventh Precinct police officers in a marked police vehicle were traveling northbound on Broadway in emergency mode, with lights on, when their car collided at 10:23 p.m. with a 2008 Dodge Charger, which was traveling westbound across Broadway from Park Hill Avenue with two occupants.

The officers were responding to assist another Seventh Precinct officer on Jerusalem Avenue in Seaford, detectives said.

Both police officers and the two people inside the Dodge were transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. The officer who was driving the police vehicle was admitted in stable condition with a leg injury. The second officer was treated for abrasions and pain to his forehead. The Dodge’s occupants were admitted in stable condition with head injuries.

The incident does not appear to involve criminality, detectives said. The investigation is ongoing.
