A 24-year-old West Babylon man was arrested Tuesday for robbing a woman at knifepoint after she withdrew money from an ATM machine, Suffolk police said.
Claire McKeon, 56, was sitting in her vehicle at the Chase Bank branch drive-up on West Montauk Highway in West Babylon when Jeremy Dunn put a knife to her throat and stole the money she withdrew shortly after 9 a.m., police said. Dunn then ran through the parking lot and then fled in a black Ford Explorer.
An off-duty New York Police Department Sergeant witnessed the robbery and provided responding officers with a description of the suspect and vehicle. Officers patrolling the area found Dunn in his vehicle and arrested him shortly thereafter.
Dunn was charged with robbery and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
First Squad detectives are continuing the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this robbery is asked to call investigators at 631-854-8152 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
