L.I. Preservation Group Lists Endangered Sites

by Associated Press on January 3, 2010

A Cold Spring Harbor-based preservation group has put together a list of what it thinks are the five most endangered buildings on Long Island.

The list from the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities includes the Booker T. Washington house in Fort Salonga, the Canoe Place Inn in Hampton Bays, and the Sayer Barn in Southampton Village.

The group hopes that putting the list together will generate public interest in saving the structures.

The Sayer Barn dates back to before the Revolutionary War. Booker T. Washington spent the last few summers of his life in the Fort Salonga house, and the Canoe Place Inn was a well-known watering hole for politicians and celebrities in the early part of the 20th century.

The top two places on the list are St. Paul’s School in Garden City, which was built in 1879, and Bogheid in Glen Cove, a mansion built in 1938.

All of the buildings except Bogheid have either federal or local recognition as hisoric landmarks.

Wedding & Event FAQ
Q- Does the flower girl have to wear white or ivory to match the bride?

A-Your flower girl can wear any colored dress, which of course coordinates with the rest of your wedding party. If you choose for her to wear white or ivory, you can accent the dress with the bridal party color sash or appliqué. She can also wear the color of the bridal party and to differentiate her, you can add a white or ivory sash. Choose something that you feel will coordinate best with the rest of your bridal party.
