Woman Fatally Struck by Car in Lynbrook

A 50-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car in Lynbrook on Thursday evening. sirens2-300x300

Nassau police said an 84-year-old man was driving his Ford Taurus westbound on Merrick Road when he struck Margaret Tosner of Lynbrook, who was crossing the street between Rockland Avenue and Charles Street at 6:02  p.m.

Tosner was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital where she was pronounced dead a half hour later.

Fifth Squad detectives believe there was no criminality involved in the crash.  Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene and performed brake and safety checks on the vehicle.

The driver was not injured.
