A homeless man was found dead in New Cassel on Monday morning.
Nassau police said 56-year-old Timothy Bryant was discovered by a passerby who spotted the victim lying in the snow in the yard of an abandoned school on Grand Street.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:20 am. There did not appear to be any criminality involved, according to 3rd Squad detectives. They said Bryant was well known on the streets of the community.
The victim was taken to the Nassau County Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be conducted. Detective Sgt. James Watson said medical examiners believe Bryant died due to “exposure from the cold.”
Detectives advise those in need of shelter to call Nassau County-Warm Bed at 1-866-927-6233. Nassau social services officials said they had no record of Bryant using the county’s shelters.
