by Long Island Press on December 15, 2009

A woman was fatally struck by a train in Smithtown on Monday night, Long Island Railroad officials said. trax-300x2251

A non-passenger train that left Huntington at 9:55 p.m and was due in Port Jefferson at 10:42 p.m. was stopped at Kings Park after striking the woman at the Landings Avenue crossing east of the Smithtown station shortly before 10 p.m., according to Metropolitan Transportation Authority police.

The crew reported that the crossing gates were down and they blew the horn but that did not prevent the collision, an LIRR spokesman said. The victim’s name was not immediately released.

Service was suspended for more than an hour in both directions on the Port Jefferson branch while investigators were on the scene.

Wedding & Event FAQ
Q- Does the flower girl have to wear white or ivory to match the bride?

A-Your flower girl can wear any colored dress, which of course coordinates with the rest of your wedding party. If you choose for her to wear white or ivory, you can accent the dress with the bridal party color sash or appliqué. She can also wear the color of the bridal party and to differentiate her, you can add a white or ivory sash. Choose something that you feel will coordinate best with the rest of your bridal party.
