The corner of Marguerite Avenue & Tennessee Street

A man and woman were arrested in connection to a shooting that occurred Monday night in South Floral Park.

According to Nassau detectives, the 23-year-old male victim was at Marguerite Avenue and Tennessee Street where he had arranged to meet 23-year-old Melissa Gaskin of Brooklyn at 10:30 p.m. When Gaskin arrived she was accompanied by Derek Gaines, 28, of Jamaica who was driving a silver van. When Gaskin got out of the van she got into a verbal fight with the victim.

Gaines jumped out of the van with handgun, according to police, and shot the victim several times in the leg and buttocks. Gaskins and Gaines left in the van and drove away. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and release for his injuries.

Gaskin and Gaines were found by police at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday sitting in a Toyota Corolla parked in Marine Park in Brooklyn.

Both were charged with Assault, Criminal Use of a Firearm and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
