Elderly Woman Struck, Killed in Port Jefferson Station

An elderly woman was struck and killed by a truck in Port Jefferson Station on Wednesday evening. sirens2-300x300

Suffolk police said Joan Lyons, 75, of Rocky Point, was crossing Route 112 when she was hit by a northbound Ford Escape driven by 40-year-old Elizabeth Paltan of Coram at 6:55 p.m.

Lyons was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead nearly two hours later. Paltan was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check while the investigation is continuing. Sixth Squad detectives ask that anyone with information on this crash to contact them at 631-854-8652.
