Two horses were killed when they strayed onto a roadway in Southold and were struck by a car.
Southhold Police say the accident happened at about 5:25 a.m. Thursday on Sound Avenue in Mattituck.
The driver was taken to a hospital. The extent of her injuries was not immediately known.
Police were not immediately sure who owned the horses — or how they got loose.
