Gift Guide ’09: Sports

by Long Island Press on December 3, 2009

Randy Ross Hammer Stepper Bike

Available At: Mineola Bicycle

The elliptical machine is probably one of the most popular pieces of workout equipment made today. It produces a full-body exercise through a comfortable and natural movement that whittles away calories. But the machine’s sedentary nature means you’ll be getting pretty good at counting ceiling tiles and locating spots to dust. The Randy Ross Stepper Bike takes the fat-burning capabilities of an elliptical machine and adds a bike, giving your workout some fresh air and scenery. Stop gazing out a window while you workout; bring the outdoors to you.

Yankees Collectibles

Available At: Steiner Sports

The legendary blue seats from the original Yankee Stadium, pried from baseball’s cathedral in the Bronx, are now available for fans to take a seat in history within the comfort of their own home. There are many packages available through Steiner, who offers additional pieces of Yankee memorabilia with the seats such as autographed items from Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera. There is also a commemorative seat available, which features an authentic seat back and bottom with new commemorative arms.

BNP Paribas Showdown for the Billie Jean King Cup

Available At: Madison Square Garden

This is the perfect gift for those on your list that “love” tennis! On Monday, March 2, four of the best women’s tennis players in the world will face off in a one-night single-elimination event at Madison Square Garden for $1.2 million in prize money. See the “outspoken” Serena Williams, her sister Venus, Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic compete for the BNP Paribas Showdown for the Billie Jean King Cup. Tickets start at only $25 and go up to $1,000 for a front-row ticket with a VIP Party Invitation, which includes open bar, full dinner buffet and appearances by all of the players. You can sweeten this gift by including a tennis racquet, outfit or tour bag (Woodbury Sports) or maybe even some tennis lessons (Sportime at Syosset Tennis).

Yoga Classes

Available At: Yoga Rocks!

Give the gift of health and well being this holiday season. If your friends are half as stressed as you are about picking out their gifts, then they will certainly appreciate this present to start their new year in the right direction. Yoga has been credited with improving health and reducing stress (and even if none of that happens, they do sell some really comfy outfits that you can lounge in when you are done). And with the amazing deal Yoga Rocks! is offering, it will give them a great trial period—two weeks of unlimited yoga classes, which also include a personal consultation to guide you into a practice that is right for you.

Long Island Ducks Season Tickets

Available At: www.liducks.com

We bet someone in your life has always dreamed about having season tickets to the ballpark. With the astronomical ticket prices of the local National and American League teams coupled with parking fees it is almost impossible to buy season tickets to those two mega stadiums. Why not stick close to home and enjoy the intimate setting of a great little ballpark right here on Long Island? The Long Island Ducks are currently offering season tickets! Each season ticket purchased this year also includes one ticket to this years leagues All-Star Game on July 6, 2010. The Ducks have also installed an E-Z Pay option which allows you to pay off your season tickets in eight installments. If going to every one of the 70 home games is a little too much of a commitment for you, the Ducks are also offering 10-game mini plans starting.

Ski Doo MXZ800 XRS

Available At: Long Island Yamaha and Ski Doo, 67 N. Broadway, Hicksville. 516-935-6969.

Just because winter coats are out, the temperature is dropping and a forecast of snow is on the horizon doesn’t mean every gift exchange this holiday season has to be winter-y. And we doubt there’s a single person on LI who would complain if they found a jet ski with a bow on it in the driveway. The Ski Doo MXZ800 XRS is at the top of its class, and is a 100 percent guarantee for a happy gift recipient.

The New York Yankees 2009 World Series Collector’s Edition DVD

Available At: Modell’s, in-store and at www.modells.com

It may have been nine years between trips to the Promised Land, but the New York Yankees not only won their 27th World Championship, but christened the inaugural season of a new stadium with a trip to the World Series for the third time in their storied history. Every inning and play is here on this DVD set, along with the ALCS Game 6 and a bonus disc of regular and postseason highlights, player interviews and celebratory footage.

Wedding & Event FAQ
Q- Does the flower girl have to wear white or ivory to match the bride?

A-Your flower girl can wear any colored dress, which of course coordinates with the rest of your wedding party. If you choose for her to wear white or ivory, you can accent the dress with the bridal party color sash or appliqué. She can also wear the color of the bridal party and to differentiate her, you can add a white or ivory sash. Choose something that you feel will coordinate best with the rest of your bridal party.
