A 21-year-old man driving a Nissan and a 56-year-old man driving a BMW westbound on Sunrise Highway were involved in a minor accident when the BMW driver got out of his car and crossed the road to the center median.

When he stepped off the median to return to his car, a Kia driven by Gina Dicostanzo, 42, of West Hempstead, struck the man, whose name police did not release, at 1:05 a.m., according to 7th Squad detectives.

The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center with severe trauma and was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Dicostanzo was also transported to Nassau University Medical Center where she was treated for shock. The BMW and the Kia were impounded for safety checks and there was no criminality involved in the accident.
