New Places—Open Now And Open Soon

by Ron Beigel on September 11, 2009

Open For Business

Porto Vivo

7 Gerard St., Huntington
631-385-8486

You’d think there’d be a Huggable Hanger Steak on a menu at a restaurant co-owned by Joy Mangano, the queen of “home solutions” on the Home Shopping Network. Hidden away from the familiar restaurant rows in Huntington, this building has three stories of airy space that should quickly be front and center in the dining scene here. The large Italian menu offers appetizers served family style, a wide range of pastas, seafood and steaks. Nightly specials include Roasted Suckling Pig every Tuesday, Osso Bucco on Saturdays and Roasted Lamb Shoulder on Sundays. Chef Steven Lecchi did a stint as Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony’s private chef after doing time in the kitchen at Lespinasse. So is a dessert special of J-Lo Jello asking too much?

Dao

92 E. Main St., Huntington
631-425-7788

Where Empire Szechuan once ruled, this glossy Asian hotspot offers creatively prepared Chinese, Thai, Malaysian and Japanese dishes in a beautifully imagined interior designed to capture a bit of the Huntington late-night buzz.

See You In September

Luzzo’s of Westbury

1195 Corporate Dr., Westbury
516-222-1042

In the space vacated by Macaroni Grill comes the large suburban version of the tiny East Village Italian, known for crispy brick oven pizzas with sourdough crusts and well-sourced ingredients.

After 75 years in Lindenhurst as the home of the Twin Lobster special, this casual Long Island legend opens a north side sibling in a newly constructed house where simply prepared old school fresh fish, ordered at the counter, will rule.

Trata

1446 Old Northern Blvd., Roslyn
516-625-2600

Look for a late-September opening for this offshoot of the Manhattan and Water Mill upscale Greek seafooder in the old Buongusto space. They’re known for exquisite presentations of whole fish, awesome mezz and a raw bar including tuna tatare.

Sripraphai

280 Hillside Ave., Williston Park
516-280-3780

Thai food fanatics have been salivating while eagerly monitoring the slow progress of construction at this only branch of the celebrated Queens legend of lemongrass.

Hopefully by the end of this month all will be ready to serve you your catfish salad and drunken noodles.

Wedding & Event FAQ
Q- Does the flower girl have to wear white or ivory to match the bride?

A-Your flower girl can wear any colored dress, which of course coordinates with the rest of your wedding party. If you choose for her to wear white or ivory, you can accent the dress with the bridal party color sash or appliqué. She can also wear the color of the bridal party and to differentiate her, you can add a white or ivory sash. Choose something that you feel will coordinate best with the rest of your bridal party.
