Career Advancement Makes Sense At Briarcliffe College

by Long Island Press on August 13, 2009

Today’s economic uncertainty leads to tough decision-making for new, returning, and transfer students.   How best to invest in educational opportunities that are most advantageous to career objectives?

Briarcliffe College offers just such an environment.  A proprietary institution with campuses in Bethpage, Patchogue and Queens, New York, Briarcliffe College is a four-year career education college offering personal attention, flexible class schedules, open enrollment, career counseling, after-hours courses, and online study programs for desirable degree programs in Criminal Justice, Graphic Design, Business Administration, and Information Technology.

Briarcliffe College identifies and creates areas of study that reflect the needs of the marketplace.  This gives Briarcliffe College an edge in preparing students for gainful employment and careers.  Established 45 years ago to offer valuable career education, Briarcliffe College has remained consistent to its original mission.

Adult Continuing Education

The adult market – that is, returning students seeking to either enhance or change their career prospects – is a growing population at Briarcliffe College.  With online, after-hour workshops, and individually designed schedules for each student, and in tandem with its advanced Career Services Department, Briarcliffe is able to respond to the fundamental needs of a workforce in transition.

For those new to exploring college options, Briarcliffe helps students to complete their high school diplomas through GED programs in cooperation with Suffolk BOCES, as well as providing fundamental courses to succeed in their studies.
New Fields of Study and Degree Programs Address The Needs of Marketplace Briarcliffe College has introduced three new concentrations and received approval from the New York State Board of Regents to offer a B.S. in Criminal Justice and an A.A.S. degree program in Paralegal Studies.  Additionally, the College faculty is comprised of professionals working in the very fields being taught, offering plenty of real life expertise.

A.A.S. in Paralegal Studies

The A.A.S. degree program in Paralegal Studies provides students with legal theory and contemporary practical law office skills for employment in law firms, government agencies, corporate legal departments, insurance companies, real estate, banks, and court systems.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates a 22 per cent growth rate for employment of paralegals through 2010.

Courses include: Introduction to Law, Legal Aspects of Business, Estates, Trusts and Wills, Family Law, Cyberlaw, Health Care Law and more.  A final course prepares students to take and pass the National Association of Legal Assistant Certification Examination, earning a “Certified Legal Assistant” title.

B.S. in Criminal Justice

The B.S. degree in Criminal Justice offers courses to those interested in the field of protective services, including emergency management, terrorism, and risk assessment.  Topics covered include homeland security, women and minorities, sex offenders in society, with a solid foundation in criminal law, juvenile justice, procedural law, policing and corrections.

Graduates are well prepared for careers as police, court and correctional officers, caseworkers, private investigators, fraud investigators, park enforcement agents, emergency services and more.”

In keeping with its career training and placement focus, Briarcliffe College provides for invaluable field and internship experiences for students.

New Concentrations Covering Health, Arts and Business

Earning credits toward a B.F.A. in Graphic Design, students may select from concentrations in animation, digital photography, multimedia and web design, including An Introduction to MAYA, Motion Capture, Digital Storyboarding, and more.

Earning credits toward a B.B.A., the specialization in Health Care Management is highly valuable in today’s growing medical field options.  Courses include Health Care Marketing and Management, Health Care Law, Medical Terminology and Contemporary Issues in Health Care.  Students gain practical experience in insurance processing, procedural and diagnostic coding, claims procedures, quality management and more.

The International Business program offers courses in:  International Marketing, Cultural Diversity in International Business, Global Business Environment, International Trade and Transactions, and International Management.
