Dr. Christy Russell-Shae

Relocating to another state offers a chance for personal and spiritual reinvention, so when Dr. Christy Russell-Shae of Minnesota was recruited in 2004 by a Long Island bank to provide health and wealth training to their employees, the inevitable happened—Christy fell in love with Long Island and never left. “I was blown away by the receptivity [of Long Islanders]. I really connected with them and it’s been amazing,” she says.

Christy, who has a pre-med undergraduate degree, a post degree in chiropractic natural medicine and is now studying for her Ph.D. in naturopathy, knew that she found a new home by staying on LI, and a new life when she opened her practice, Simply Vibrant, now located in Rockville Centre. The practice is a unique concept in natural health that utilizes technology and natural therapies with, as Christy says, “A healthy dose of common sense.”

Christy’s expertise is helping people to cleanse and rejuvenate, nourish and then build up their body. She deals with the body’s internal imbalance and what it is trying to tell us.

Her areas of focus include autism, allergies, ADHD and asthma, or as she calls them, “The Four A’s.” She continues to expand her studies and uses therapies she’s learned from traveling to other countries to bring the most up-to-date care to her clients. Most of her mentors, she says, are outside of the U.S., with Germany as her primary [source].

“They have a very holistic way of thinking,” she says. Christy’s practice also includes customized nutrition, natural methods in overcoming chronic disease and other treatments. Her practice is split between adults and children and many of the adults she treats are afflicted with MS, lupus, arthritis, fibromyalgia and other syndromes which she says, “have fallen through the cracks of Western medicine.”

“I am in the wrong part of the equation. I should be in the front [seen first by a client],” she explains. “Even in natural medicine it can get complicated. I am very practical and try to keep things simple.”

Christy attributes her success to word of mouth and referrals. “People are seeking me out,” she explains. “I am doing something right.” As for her staff, Christy describes them as “a whole team that uses a customized program to get to the core [diagnosis and treatment].

“We’re very collaborative and I have many MDs that refer [clients] to me. Natural is most effective in prevention and pharmaceuticals are most effective in acute situations. The beauty is knowing what is best for the client.”

Christy is also certified as a doctor for Defeat Autism Now, an organization of health professionals who are dedicated to educating parents and clinicians regarding biomedically based research, appropriate testing, and safe and effective interventions for autism.

“I want to know more about the relationship between your body and toxicity,” she says. Citing a grim statistic, she adds,  “A study was done that 287 chemicals were absorbed from the [expectant] mother in the blood of a baby before birth. This [awareness of toxicity] needs to start before conception.”

She has begun streamlining her practice to make more time for speaking presentations. “This is my give-back. I speak anywhere there’s a large number of people. My goal is to start an education program and teach natural wellness on Long Island.

“My reason for being here is to help guide parents and give them the information they need and empower them with the knowledge to make informed decisions on effective and practical approaches to healthy living.”
