When Eduardo Mestre retired as chairman of CSHL’s Board of Trustees in 2010, members looked no further than within their own ranks to find his replacement. Nicholls, a Harvard Business School graduate and former General Partner at Forstmann Little & Co. who had also worked at Goldman Sachs and McKinsey & Co., not only had the pedigree, but she’d been a board trustee since 2006 and its treasurer since 2009. Members knew that her energy, dedication, commitment to excellence and passion for the Laboratory’s mission and standing as a world-recognized leader in biomedical research, education and genetics would be quite the perfect fit. Nicholls is not merely the institution’s new captain, she helped mold CSHL into the powerhouse it is today.
