The Infiniti press conference at the 2010 New York International Auto Show began at 10 a.m., yet there wasn’t a word spoken about cars, let alone spoken in general, until at least 10:07. Why the delay? Ask the trio of Cirque de Soleil dancers who contorted all over the small stage before taking the wraps off its refreshed QX56 SUV.

The company’s flagship peoplemover takes styling elements from other lineup siblings—headlights from the FX, taillights from the new M—but the result is certainly up for debate. The new QX comes with a 5.6-liter, 400-horsepower V8 engine, a 25 percent jump over the outgoing model’s engine. Maybe aerodynamics is an excuse for its look, because despite the more powerful motor, it gets 10 percent better fuel economy.
A check written for $56,700 will get you out of an Infiniti showroom with the new QX when it goes on sale this summer.
