Long Island campuses aren’t the only ones in New York State embracing green initiatives.
The EPA has awarded the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Brookhaven National Laboratory and the City University of New York (CUNY) $150,000 to use advanced software tools to determine energy efficiency and power management opportunities in CUNY campus buildings.
The money will allow CUNY schools to follow in the footsteps of SUNY campuses in Farmingdale and Stony Brook, which have also taken steps toward energy efficiency.
“These grants provide invaluable resources to experts who already have innovative and practical ideas about how to prevent pollution from getting into our environment,” said EPA Regional Administrator Judith Enck.
The collaboration will work towards reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and will work closely with the community to apply these tools to various facilities, such as housing projects, hospitals and hotels.
