When was your Chamber established?
The Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, Inc. was established in 1924.
How many members do you have?
400 members.
How does the Chamber promote their shop-local initiatives?
We advertise, have promotions such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Sidewalk Sales, Halloween Happenings, and Alive After Five™ among other promotions. We belong to the Brookhaven Chambers of Commerce Coalition which promotes “Shop Locally.” We have welcome bags for new residents to our community. We have an office that is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for visitors and residents to get information about our member businesses and events that are happening. Business cards, brochures and event flyers are available. We have a website which lists all our members by category and alphabetically, and lists events as updates on projects in our community such as the new YMCA on West Main Street and the Tritec Development of the Four Corners on Main Street.
What ways is the Chamber involved in the community?
We work with the Village of Patchogue and the Business Improvement District on beautification of the village. We promote events sponsored by our member service clubs and non-profit organizations. We sponsor shows at the Patchogue Theatre for Performing Arts. There are kiosks on Main Street where we post flyers of events happening in town. Our Grants Committee applies for and receives grants for the revitalization of our downtown. By working together, Patchogue is the place to live, shop, dine and spend your recreational time.
What are some upcoming events that the Chamber sponsors?

Are there any memorable moments in the Chamber’s history that you would like to share?
Patchogue has multigenerational businesses, some for over 100 years. Personal service and quality merchandise has been their motto. The Colony Shop, a children’s clothing store on East Main Street, is one multigenerational business. Today, the owner, Eloise Staudinger who will be 101 in May, and her daughter Lorice and granddaughter Lori work side by side every day. Eloise started the beautification projects in Patchogue. She organized the first Beautification Fundraiser dinner 35 years ago. Eloise always says “Treat your customer right.” Doing that has made her business successful. Eloise has been a member of our chamber for over 50 years.
What was your 2008 Business of the Year and why?
Charles Baker, President of the Chamber and co-owner of Krystal Writing Boards, Inc. on West Main Street, is our Member of the Year. He will be honored on April 2 at the Brookhaven Chambers of Commerce Coalition’s 10th Annual Member of the Year Reception. Charlie has given many volunteer hours to the chamber. He believes in the power of “Shop Locally” and has initiated new benefits for our members. Charlie can be seen welcoming new businesses to Patchogue. He epitomizes today’s businessman.
How can kioli help you and your members?
Help promote “Shop Locally.” Together we can make all communities on Long Island have busy and successful downtowns.
