The North Shore Animal League is concluding its “12 Days of Rescue” with a special Christmas Eve treat that includes hot chocolate, Santa and free adoptions.
From 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., all animals adopted are free of charge. Santa Claus will be there to spread holiday cheer on Christmas Eve at 8:30 a.m., along with hot chocolate and coffee.
Santa and his elves are also making an appearance at the Grooming Room on Tuesday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Those who can’t make it can watch live via UStream and enjoy the music, decorations and puppies.
The 12 Days of Rescue features different discounted adoptions each day. NSAL is also rescuing animals from a different shelter or puppy mill around the country every day.
The remaining days include 15 percent off all locally rescued animals on Tuesday, free adoptions for cats ages 2 and over on Wednesday and Friday and one free grooming for pets adopted on Thursday.
Over 8 million animals are put in shelter each year, and according to the Animal League, more than 4 million of them are euthanized, according to the Animal League.
The Animal League is open every day from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. The holiday hours are: Christmas Eve from 9 a.m.-8 p.m., Christmas Day from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., New Year’s Eve, from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and New Year’s Day from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. It is located at 16 Lewyt Street, Port Washington.
