Republican Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter has fended off a rematch from the man he unseated two years prior.
Walter topped Democrat Phil Cardinale, the former supervisor who was looking for his job back, in the first final unofficial election results to have a complete initial tally Tuesday night.
Walter had 62 percent of the vote versus Cardinale with 35 percent.
Gregory Fischer, who lost the Democratic primary to Cardinale, won 3 percent of the vote on the Riverhead First line.
