All aboard!
Long Island Rail Road service has officially been fully restored Thursday, six days after trains stopped running ahead of Hurricane Irene’s expected arrival last weekend.
All 11 branches were running for the first time Thursday morning for the first time since since noon Saturday. The last line to be restored was service between Ronkonkoma and Greenport on the North Fork, just in time for the unofficial last weekend of summer.
“We are delighted to be able to provide full service on all of our branches in time for customers who are traveling for the Labor Day weekend,” LIRR President Helena Williams said in a statement. “We know how important our service is to the local economy and to our customers’ travel plans.
