SUNY College at Farmingdale is high on the list of priorities of SUNY officials, according to SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher, which is good news for the college.
On July 8, Zimpher made Farmingdale her 27th stop on her tour of SUNY colleges statewide starting on June 1, and vowed to make the campus more successful economically and academically. Zimpher has been intimately involved in the mission to oversee some of the changes that will help the college increase its visibility.
The construction being made on the Farmingdale campus will be concluded around Labor Day and will include a refurbished Dental Hygiene Care Center and Bioscience Lab. A donation of $207,000 worth of new equipment for the security systems labs was provided.
On the topic of increasing the tenured professor population at the University, Zimpher believes that this would be helpful to the students, but it is also important to expand creativity. This would entail hiring professors who have firsthand experience and established careers that would make them a credible learning source.
Zimpher said that SUNY Farmingdale’s goal is to “grow strengths and build capacity through partnership and collaboration.” This would include extending the relationship the university has with other institutions on Long Island, giving students more opportunities than ever before.
It is essential that the university has a selective number of strengths, rather than many complexities which would be difficult for people to translate, according to Zimpher.
SUNY Farmingdale was one of the first universities to become involved in the Green movement, and they’re continuing on this track as being one of the leaders among other colleges. “Green then, green now” is the motto Farmingdale has implemented.
After Zimpher made her way through the tour of Farmingdale’s improved facilities she took time to sit down with students and discuss their experience and thoughts of the university.
Students included the president of student government, majors in pro pilot, nursing, security systems, engineering as well as others, just to show the broad range of opportunities SUNY Farmingdale offers.
