A Saudi prince was convicted Tuesday of murdering one of his servants at the Landmark Hotel in London in February.
Prince Saud Abdulaziz bin Nasser al Saud was found guilty of murdering Bandar Abdullah Abdulaziz on Feb. 15.
The prosecution showed a video shot in the elevator of the hotel which supposedly shows the 34-year-old prince beating his 32-year-old servant. Prosecutor Jonathan Laidlaw also said that photographs on a mobile phone showed there was a sexual element to the abuse, and that there was no appearance of a struggle.
The prince had originally told police that he and Abdulaziz had been drinking into the early hours of the morning, and when he awoke he could not wake up Abdulaziz. His defense lawyer claimed that Al Saud was only guilty of manslaughter.
Al Saud, whose grandfather is the brother of the current Saudi king, was convicted of both murder and a second count of grievous bodily harm with intent regarding the attack in the elevator. He could face life in prison when he is sentenced on Wednesday.
