Bachelorman 7/10
(Magnolia Home Entertainment)
Have you ever wondered how the most average-looking guys get the most gorgeous women? You know, the guys who play the game so well it’s as if they invented it. Enter Bachelorman, starring David DeLuise. DeLuise plays Ted Davis, a misogynistic self-confirmed bachelor who feels not as if he is God’s gift to women, but rather that women are God’s gift to him. He leaves the movie’s starting gate giving his “rules” for how to pick girls up. One of the funnier scenes has Ted spraying Endust in his doorway prior to opening it, letting his date think he has been cleaning all day in anticipation of her arrival. This goes on until he meets his next-door neighbor, Heather (Missi Pyle), who happens to be a self-confirmed bachelorette. She, too, has her own “rules” for picking up men. Along with cleverly written comedic dialogue, there are plenty of sight gags that will have you rolling with laughter. DVD extras include fake commercials that are definitely worth a look, as well as the outtakes. Those looking for a romantic comedy to spend an hour and a half with could do a lot worse than this. —Charles Friedman
