Elliot Sadler was driving an Air-Force sponsored Ford when it went head-on into an interior fence approaching Turn 2 on Sunday at the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway.
The crash ripped the engine out of the car and left the front end of the vehicle torn away.
After the crash, Sadler climbed out of the cockpit and was treated and released from the infield medical center. He said he was sore and definitely had the wind knocked out of him.

Kurt Busch’s car was also damaged. His car hit the outside fence and then the interior wall. Jimmie Johnson took the blame for trying to bump-draft Busch.
Pocono Raceway has also been the site of Jeff Gordon’s 2006 crash. The raceway has planned safety improvements for 2011. Shock-absorbing barriers, which will be safer, will be installed along the straightaway between Turns 1 and 2.
