A 43-year-old woman was fatally struck by a truck while she was crossing a street in her hometown of Patchogue on Thursday evening.

Suffolk County police said Maria Loja was crossing East Main Street when she was hit by a westbound Chevrolet at 7:20 p.m.

The victim was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in East Patchogue where she died shortly later.

The driver, 58-year-old Peter Lee Ihne of East Patchogue, was not injured.

Fifth Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them at 631-854-8552.
