A Long Island hospital will perform surgery on a 6-year-old Afghan girl who was shot in the face by the Taliban in Afghanistan.
The New York Post reports little Marizeh will undergo surgery Friday at South Nassau Communites Hospital in Oceanside, N.Y. The newspaper withheld her last name to protect her surviving family members in Afghanistan.
Plastic surgeon Dr. Kaveh Alizadeh says Marizeh lost her right eye when she was shot earlier this year. Alizadeh tells the Post that her father and brother were killed in the attack.

The surgery will restore the child’s ability to breathe through her nose and sleep through the night for the first time since she was shot. She will also receive a prosthetic eye.
