A hit-and-run driver killed a 29-year-old man in Centereach early Friday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Officers responded to a report of a man lying in the middle of Park Street near the corner of Rustic Road where they found Michael Vanhulse at 1 a.m., police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His injuries were consistent with him getting struck from behind by a vehicle, police said.

Sixth Squad detectives are continuing the investigation.
