A 39-year-old U.S. Army soldier from Baldwin is the latest Long Island service member to die while stationed in Afghanistan.
Sgt. 1st Class Kevin E. Lipari lost his life Friday while serving in Logar Province as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
He was assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team based out of Bamberg, Germany.
The Department of Defense did not immediately provide any details about Lipari’s death, which is under investigation.
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano ordered flags on county government buildings to be flown at half-staff Dec. 20 through Dec. 27.
Flags are currently being flown at half-staff through Dec. 19 to honor Nassau County Police Officer Arthur Lopez. who was killed in the line of duty on Oct. 23.
