A teenager who was wounded in a shooting near his Freeport home was among two men arrested on gun charges Wednesday evening, Nassau County police said.
Officers responding to a report of shots fired near the corner of Smith Street and West Merrick Road stopped a Toyota Camry fleeing the scene and found a loaded semi-automatic handgun inside at 8:28 p.m., police said.
The driver, 22-year-old Alex Valerio-Fernandez of Freeport, was taken into custody along with his 17-year-old passenger, Albhert Corsino, who was hospitalized for treatment of a gunshot wound to his right calf and left thigh.
Both were charged with criminal possession of a weapon. They are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
