Driver, 72, Carjacked in East Meadow

A 72-year-old man was victim of a carjacking in East Meadow on Monday evening, Nassau County police said.

The victim was sitting in his Dodge Caravan in front of a strip mall on Hempstead Turnpike when a man opened the passenger side door, got in and demanded the victims’ wallet at 5:35 p.m., police said.

The victim tried to get out of the minivan, the two men got into a scuffle and both men fell to the ground.


The robber stole the victims’ wallet and keys and fled the scene in the stolen minivan, which was recovered nearby shortly later.  The victim was not injured.

The suspect was described as a white man, 25 to 30 years old, 220 pounds with a mustache.
