College students, Long Island residents and other groups that advocate for peace in society will be recognized at the Kairos awards dinner at Hofstra University Saturday night.
The Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives will honor present and future peacemakers at the evening awards program, which kicks off at 6 p.m. at the Student Center located on North Campus.
“The arc of peacemaking moves forward from those who pursue peace for a lifetime toward the next generation who are actively engaged in building a better world in their communities on Long Island,” Alliance director Margaret Melkonian said in a statement.
Stan and Shirley Romaine, with the Great Neck chapter of National Peace Action, will be recognized with the Persistent Peacemakers award for their activism.
Other honorees include Sister Jeanne Clark of Pax Christi LI and Bob Marcus of North Country Peace Group and Suffolk Peace Network.
Long Island Alliance will also honor two “Next Generation of Peacemakers,” Ariel Flatnik, a senior at Hofstra, and SUNY Albany senior Kaleel Watkins.
