A 29-year-old woman died hours after she was struck by a car while in North Patchogue on Thursday evening.

Suffolk County police said Melinda Resto was walking on North Ocean Avenue when she was hit by a northbound Honda Civic near Shaber Road at 8:25 p.m.

The victim was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital where she later died.

The driver, 33-year-old Shawn Smith of North Patchogue, was not injured.

Fifth Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them at 631-854-8552.
