Motorcyclist Killed in North Babylon Hit-and-run

A 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he crashed into a truck, landed on the roadway and was struck by a hit-and-run driver in North Babylon on Monday evening, Suffolk County police said.

Yannis F. Valencia was speeding on his Suzuki eastbound on Sunrise Highway when he attempted to change lanes, hit the rear of a International flatbed tow truck and was ejected from his motorcycle at 7:05 p.m., police said.

The Brentwood man was then run over by an eastbound vehicle. That driver did not stop.

Valencia was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the flatbed, 54-year-old Ricardo Carter of Brentwood, was not injured in the crash.

The vehicle that fled the scene was described as a small SUV-type vehicle.

The motorcycle was impounded for safety checks. Police inspected the tow truck at the scene.

First Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information who may have witnessed the crash and who has not been interviewed to call them at 631-854-8152.
