A New Cassel teenager and a juvenile have been arrested after their three pit bulls mauled a man and bit another teen on Monday afternoon, Nassau County police said.
Police said the dogs ran free from an open gate of a Maplewood Drive home when they attacked a 44-year-old man who was walking with his daughter at 3:20 p.m. The victim shielded the girl while the dogs bit his arms, legs and abdomen.
A 16-year-old boy who heard the dogs barking from inside his home walked outside and was bitten on the knee, police added.
Both victims fought off the dogs until 17-year-old Nyisha Banks and the juvenile came and brought the dogs back into their house, police said.
The victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The girl was not injured.
Banks and the juvenile were charged reckless endangerment and released on a summons. Banks will be arraigned Dec. 11 at First District Court in Hempstead. The juvenile will face charges in Nassau County Family Court.
