Hampton Bays Woman Charged in DWI Hit-and-run

A woman has been accused of driving drunk, hitting a dog that was being walked by its owner and fleeing the scene in her hometown of Hampton Bays on Saturday evening.

Southampon Town Police said Eileen Egan was driving her Cadillac westbound on Neptune Avenue when she struck the dog and drove off at 4:20 p.m.

Officers apprehended the 66-year-old woman shortly later on Beth Lane where she was found to be under the influence of alcohol, police said.


Egan was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an incident, failure to maintain lane and traffic violations.

The dog was is being treated for a leg injury and is expected to survive.
