Cops: Man Beat Another With Bottle at Merrick Bar

A man has been arrested for smashing a beer bottle in the face of another man at a bar in Merrick early Sunday morning, Nassau County police said.

James Fontana got into an argument with the 23-year-old victim outside Jugs and Stroker’s Bar on Sunrise Highway when the fight escalated shortly before 2 a.m., police said.

That’s when police said Fontana struck the victim with the bottle, causing a deep laceration to the victim’s nose. The victim was taken to an area hospital where several stitches were required to close the wound.

Officers responding to a report of an assault stopped the 42-year-old South Farmingdale man as he ran from the scene , police said.

Fontana was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
