A South Carolina tree trimmer helping Long Island repair Hurricane Sandy damage died when he was struck by a falling tree in Nissequogue this week.

Suffolk County police said 36-year-old David Freberg was working for South Carolina-based Patriot Tree Service when he was struck in the head by a broken tree limb at 12:17 p.m. Monday.

Homicide Squad detectives said he was attempting to trim a fallen tree that was damaged during Sandy.

Freberg, of York, S.C., was taken to Stony Brook Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
