A 48-year-old man has been accused of drunken driving after authorities said he struck a Nassau County police patrol car in his hometown of Massapequa on Friday evening.

Police said Thomas Tighe was driving a Lincoln MKT when he rear-ended a female Seventh Precinct officer who was stopped at a traffic light at the corner of Hicksville Road and Merrick Road shortly before 8 p.m.

Officers determined that Tighe was under the influence of alcohol and arrest him on a charge of driving while intoxicated, police siad.

The officer, who was not named, was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated for neck and back pain.

Tighe will be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
