A trip to the polls turned into an emotional experience for a resident in storm-ravaged Long Beach, Long Island.
Sarah Brewster was shaken when she entered the school to vote on Tuesday.
She noticed that the clocks were all stopped at 7:27. That’s the time on a week ago Monday when everyone in the community lost power.
Tears streamed down Brewster’s face as she emerged from the crowded school cafeteria.
Outside, she was surrounded by more reminders of the storm — the loud hum of generators, the port-a-potties on the sidewalk.
Brewster, who works at a nonprofit, says voting is “part of our civic responsibility in the midst of all this crisis.”
